Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
A Community Supported Agriculture Program is a partnership between farmer and consumer unique to diversified farms such as Misty Brook. CSAs are a return to local economies and a rejection of industrial food. They affirm eating as an act of conscientious pleasure and old-fashioned neighborliness.
At the beginning of the season, members purchase a "share" of the season's harvest. Beginning in June and running until the end of October or the end of November, they will receive a weekly box containing a sampling of what is in season. Misty Brook is unusual in that we are offering the options of a Whole Farm CSA, Meat CSA, or Vegetable CSA, allowing members to source raw milk, eggs, meat, and vegetables all from one farm in one weekly pick-up.
In the spring, leafy greens abound; early summer ushers in squash, zucchini and cucumbers; summer reaches its zenith with the arrival of tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes, and the cool nights of fall bring in a harvest of root crops and winter squash. Boxes are varied and contain all the old favorites of the produce section as well as some new flavors.
CSAs allow farmers to balance the inherent risks of farming and to develop relationships with the people who eat their food. CSAs allow eaters to be connected directly to the land and people who feed them and to rest assured that each share they receive contains wholesome, local, certified organic products.
